Often called Lou Gehrig’s disease, after the famed baseball great who battled the disease, ALS has no known cause or cure. What’s more, every 90 minutes someone is diagnosed with this dreaded, fatal disease. ALS is an equal opportunity disease, affecting men and women of all ages, races, and ethnic backgrounds.
The Greater Philadelphia Chapter of The ALS Association is the largest and most active in the nation. The Chapter provides support and resources for over 875 ALS patients, their families, and caregivers living in the eastern half of Pennsylvania, Southern New Jersey, and Delaware. In addition, the Chapter funds research into the cause, treatment and cure of the disease, and is an advocate for patients and their families. The ALS Association is the only national nonprofit organization dedicated solely to the fight against ALS. The chapter is proud to be the principal charity of the Philadelphia Phillies since 1984.
